As we gear up to start pre-selling our incredible new Guy Harvey and Drew Brophy-inspired bottles, I'm sure many of you have been also wondering, what about Water Gallery's next Wyland images? He is our inaugural artist, afterall. Wonder no longer...here they are! Our next Wyland-inspired glass water bottles are going to feature two of his most stunning works of art, Shark Reef and Mermaid and Turtle.
Showcasing a glowing moon, rich blue ocean water, and a solitary shark prowling the coral reef for its dinner, Wyland's Shark Reef is hauntingly beautiful. Although sharks are actually shy creatures who just want to be left undisturbed in their ocean habitat, Wyland reminds us that "sharks are most active at dusk and in the early evening hours," noting that smaller fish should beware. This piece captures the shark's predatory nature and the ocean's depth in a powerful and stirring way.
Wyland's beautiful painting Mermaid and Turtle captures a sunlit moment of tenderness as an elegant sea maiden comes into contact with a green sea turtle. The ever-present sea fantasy of the existence of mermaids is one that is shared by ocean-lovers of all ages, including Wyland himself who says, "Mermaids have long-been a fascination of mine and I wanted to paint the delicate beauty of the sea maiden as she swims gracefully in her water world."
We love these two pieces for the ways in which they both complement and contrast with one another. Both show the grace and beauty of an underwater scene, with rich colors and light (sunlight in one painting, moonlight in the other), illuminating the nuances of life in the sea. But we are also compelled by the contrast of the two paintings-- the warmth and affection shared between the mermaid and the turtle versus the powerful and solitary nature of the shark. We are consistently amazed by Wyland's exceptional talent and we are honored to showcase his art in such a unique way.
Look out for a release date for these two Wyland-inspired Water Gallery bottles sometime in early 2016. We know our Wyland fans will be waiting with baited breath!
