Water Gallery set up a booth this past weekend at the Dana Point, California Ocean Institute's annual Tall Ships Festival. It was a really special two-day event that has been held at this spot for 31 years, so we were thrilled to showcase and sell our artistic swing-top glass water bottles in such a dynamic environment. Known as the largest gathering of tall ships along the West Coast, it's fun for all ages.
Folks can tour these incredible tall ships which are in real working order. And as you wander through the ships, as well as past all the booths featuring various sorts of crafts, jewelry, works of art, and food, you run into "pirates" dressed in all sorts of colorful and whimsical garb. They are everywhere and each one is more theatrical and animated than the last!
You see "pirates" as young as 2 and as "well-seasoned" as 82. It's really quite a sight to behold! And to add to the fun, set up amongst the booths are interactive living-history encampments which feature blacksmiths, dancers, musicians, artists, and much more. Throughout each day are reenactments of cannon battles on the sea, with boats filled with pirates putting on quite a show for on-lookers.
And of course the beach itself is not to be missed, mere steps away from where all the booths and performances are set up. Considering the fact that it was an unusual 90 degrees on the water for the majority of both days, wading in the waves was a very relaxing respite from the heat!
If you're a Southern California local or an out-of-towner visiting in September next year, check out this fantastic event. Water Gallery had a great time at this awe-inspiring weekend of adventure and we look forward to joining in the fun again next year!
