Did you know that a switch to renewable energy sources will actually create millions of jobs? Although eco-friendly choices have previously been associated with greater expense and the possibility of job loss in our country, the former is changing and the latter is simply not true. According to a new study, making the transition to efficient, renewable energy sources (including making the change from fossil fuel-powered cars to electric cars), would add a million jobs by 2030 and roughly 2 million jobs by 2050 (not to mention reducing emissions to levels that have not been seen since before 1990).
Specifically mentioning the construction industry, the study claims that the need to hire people to build wind farms, install solar panels, and retrofit buildings would create a huge increase in the job market. Think also of the exciting new electric car company Tesla. Its founder Elon Musk has made American-made electric cars his priority, bringing his amazing "Gigafactory" to Nevada.
Construction of the factory alone will provide 3,000 jobs here in America and eventually the factory will provide up to an estimated 6,500 jobs for battery production hitting full capacity by the year 2020. Makes a lot of sense, doesn't it? We must make the steps forward to address climate change, so the added perk of a boost to our economy makes it all the more appealing and necessary.
As always, reduce, reuse, recycle, and conserve. Small, everyday changes can make a big difference!
