Last night was a very special night for us at Water Gallery: not only was it the annual Wyland Foundation fundraiser, which is an event near and dear to our hearts, but it was also Water Gallery's one-year anniversary as a company! While enjoying the evening at the fundraiser, which is always a wonderful event filled with informative presentations; a silent auction; dynamic conversation; and valuable face-time with the man at the helm of all this artistic and philanthropic greatness, Wyland himself, we also took the time to reflect on our first year growing Water Gallery as a company.
In many ways, this year has flown by...in other ways, it has felt like a slow trek uphill. Such is the case with most start-up companies who start from the ground up-- the work is never done and your company is your "baby" in many ways. From Water Gallery's inception back in 2012, it took over two years to perfect the artistic bottles you see today-- much trial and error in terms of production and a lot of stops and starts.
Every time we went back to the drawing board, our vision for our bottles became more and more clear. And also within that time, we were developing what is of the utmost importance to us as a company: the ways in which we want to give back to the natural environment and earth's waterways. Along with bringing a beautiful, functional, eco-friendly piece of art into people's homes, environmental conservation and awareness are really the cornerstones of everything we want to do with our business and our brand.
As we developed the beauty of the bottles, we were also putting time and effort into making sure our production process was as carbon neutral as possible (hence, our Carbon Neutral status as a company), securing our membership with the amazing environmental organization 1% For the Planet, and learning more about the phenomenal Wyland Foundation (to which we give 3% of all of our sales). And so, after years of development and a full year "on the market," it feels like no coincidence that our one-year anniversary has fallen on the night that Wyland's Foundation gathers together to raise funds for marine life education and ocean conservation. A true marriage of the minds between Wyland and Water Gallery.
We are fiercely proud not only of where we've come in a year as a small, growing company, but also that we've partnered with an artist who cares so deeply about the natural world. We at Water Gallery are so excited to continue our partnership with Wyland as well as add on two new artists, Guy Harvey and Drew Brophy, both of whom not only create exquisite art of their own, but are also dedicated to environmental causes. Here's to another exciting Water Gallery year and hopefully many more to come!
