While we are flattered that people in blog comments, social media posts, and emails think that we are Wyland, Water Gallery is actually a separate company from Wyland. What we are is a LICENSEE of Wyland's incredible art and we are thrilled to be. It is our goal to represent everything Wyland stands for; we are aligned in our core values, such as conservation and environmental awareness. That's what we seek in an artist whose art we would like to license.
But what does it mean to be a licensee? A licensee is a company who is given permission by the licensor (in this case, Wyland) to use their images on a defined product. In our case, this product is our glass water bottles which showcase Wyland's marine life art. As a licensee, there are restrictions. For example, we can't put his art on a skateboard or on a canvas. And with the permission to use Wyland's art comes responsibility: we have to represent his art appropriately, he gets final approval on the products we create with his art, and we have to keep his brand message in mind with everything we do.
To all of you who may have thought Water Gallery is Wyland, we are flattered. This tells us that we're doing something right, that we are using his art in ways that his fan base loves! But we at Water Gallery are also on the journey to forge our own identity, one that in many ways parallels the artists whose art we license, but is also uniquely our own. We are passionate about the environment. We are art enthusiasts. We are glass lovers. We are fans of elegant home decor. We "geek out" about kitchen essentials that add color and beauty to one's countertop. We put reusability at the forefront of our minds at all times. And most of all, we care about connecting with the people who love our bottles, hearing our collectors' voices, viewpoints, and how our bottles bring happiness into one's everyday life.
