Did you know that plastic NEVER fully biodegrades, ever? That means, in some way, shape, or form, every piece of plastic ever made STILL exists in our landfills, our oceans and waterways, and in our natural environment in general. There is also scientific evidence showing that some plastics actually leak dangerous chemicals into whatever the plastic comes into contact with-- the liquids contained in plastic water bottles, our children when they play with plastic toys, the products we use to clean our homes.
These facts alone make us never want to use plastic in any capacity ever again! We know that it's probably not realistic to completely eliminate plastic from our lives, but there are certainly ways to minimize our use of plastics. Some ways are: refrain from buying single-use plastic beverage bottles (ranging from bottled water to juices to sodas) and carry a stainless steel or glass water bottle that can be reused multiple times; refrain from using plastic straws, even in restaurants; always carry reusable cloth grocery bags to do your food shopping; avoid using plastic ware when eating at home and decline the offered plastic ware from restaurants when getting take-out; use cloth diapers to reduce your baby's carbon footprint and save money; purchase food like cereal and various grains from bulk containers and bring a refillable bag for each purchase so you don't waste a plastic bag each time; and so forth.
There are myriad ways to avoid using plastic in our lives. The expectation is not that we all strive for PERFECTION, but rather, PROGRESS! Every little gesture you make at reducing your single-use plastic consumption makes a big difference.
We at Water Gallery think that plastic is a wasteful, unhealthy medium for the water/beverages we drink, so we are thrilled to be offering a glass drinking and serving vessel. We know that our Water Gallery bottles are not the ideal substitution for the water bottle that you want to carry with you out of the house and use freely throughout the day, but we do feel that our bottles offer each of you a chance to make a positive change in plastic reduction in your daily life.
Reusing your Water Gallery bottle in your home over and over is a fantastic environmental choice-- you pour water for your guests out of a reusable vessel instead of offering them single-use plastic water bottles; you use one drinking vessel time and time again without recycling it or having it end up in a landfill; and you own a piece of functional art that works as both a reusable water bottle and an art piece, playing a few different roles in your home. Water Gallery's goals are to make people's lives more aesthetically pleasing while also helping people to reduce their carbon footprint.
